Greetings from Dehradun
Greetings from the Wildlife Institute of India in Dehradun, where I’ll be studying tiger conservation through May 2015 as a visiting Fulbright-Nehru scholar. My team — the Tiger Cell — is at the heart of tiger initiatives being implemented across the country. The energy on campus is palpable for the work being done. My project examines scientific research and strategies used to protect the Bengal tiger and its habitat and also tiger-centric devotional practices, songs, stories and cultural traditions as a resource for understanding attitudes toward human-tiger coexistence. Wildlife biologists, tribals, villagers, swamis, scholars and students are among those I will interview.
